Hearthline combines “hearth” (the traditional symbol of home and warmth) with “line” to suggest a new lineage or typology of housing. It speaks to generational continuity and the emotional core of community living. Our team takes a unique approach to solving today’s housing crisis with design centered in practicality, affordability, and livability, and an emphasis on community-building. Our aproach was to design adaptable modules and unit floor plans that can change with the diverse and fluid needs of its occupants. Designed with flexibility in mind, the standardized layout can expand for deeper lots or contract for smaller sites, adapting seamlessly to various conditions. SB1123 allows for a variety of unit types including a housing cooperative model. Our co-housing model enables neighbors to pool resources while empowering individuals and families via low-barrier home ownership. Enter Hearthline, a highly flexible and affordable housing strategy which is replicable, scalable and adaptable for infill sites across Los Angeles and beyond.
